Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson is one of the most underrated run stoppers in football. Tomlinson has accomplished a lot in his six-year career, but he looks to check off another box in Sunday’s Wild Card Round matchup against his former team.
Sunday’s game will mark Tomlinson’s first career playoff game. However, after playing his college ball at Alabama, he’s no stranger to the big stage.
Tomlinson was a part of the Crimson Tide’s 2015 national title team as well as 2016’s runner-up squad. But that was then and this is now.
Tomlinson’s teammate, Vikings DT Harrison Phillips, is excited to see Tomlinson back under the bright lights. Phillips, who has played in five playoff games in his career, has high expectations for his teammate making his postseason debut.
“I had joked with him, if I can remember back to when he was in college, those SEC championship and national championship games, he went kind of stupid,” Phillips said. “So, I was like, no one in the world has ever seen playoff Dalvin before, so maybe we’re all in for quite the movie. But no, he’s a mature player, played in huge, big-time football games in his life and in his career here, and I think that he’ll be on, ten-toed down the whole game.”
Minnesota will need playoff Dalvin to keep the New York Giants’ star running back Saquon Barkley in check. Barkley finished the regular season fourth in rushing with 1,312 yards.
Stopping the run will be the key to the game for Minnesota, who has had difficulty doing so at times this season. The Vikings are hoping Tomlinson can channel his college days and step up in this big moment.
