A rough 2025 season for the Minnesota Vikings continues to get worse.

Earlier in the week, the Vikings placed edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, safety Josh Metellus, and left tackle Christian Darrisaw on injured reserve, ending their seasons. It was something that had to be done, especially since they were eliminated from the playoffs.

Saturday afternoon brought a different kind of issue for the Vikings, something you rarely see.

Minnesota Vikings have issues with team plane, have to turn around

For a Sunday game, traveling on Saturday afternoon is the norm. That’s what the Vikings were trying to do, but things didn’t go as planned. An hour into the flight, the team’s plane had issues, and the Vikings were forced to turn back around. The team released a statement about their plane issues.

“Shortly after departing, the team plane experienced mechanical issues that required a return to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The team will board a second plane momentarily and is now expected to arrive at Newark International Airport later tonight.”

Usually, a plane turning around isn’t that big of an issue. However, it significantly delays the Vikings from getting out east to New Jersey. That can be a huge disruption for a team, as their days are often structured around arrival times for team meals, check-in at the hotel, etc.

The Vikings will arrive in Newark later this evening and be OK. Still, this could be a distraction for the Vikings and could end up affecting them on Sunday afternoon.

It’s not a great way to start the weekend.
