The Minnesota Vikings suffered a brutal loss on Sunday afternoon, 23-6, to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

After a good week of practice, the hope was that J.J. McCarthy could take a step forward. He had some good plays in the first half, but cratered in the second half, with some of that because of the offensive line. It struggled massively in the second half, somewhat due to injuries.

Minnesota Vikings suffered multiple injuries on Sunday

There were three major injuries suffered by the Vikings on Sunday, and two of them were on the offensive line. Head coach Kevin O’Connell provided an update on them after the game.

Christian Darrisaw had an ankle that he tried to play through, and eventually, he came out of the game. Donovan Jackson also had an ankle on a foot and was trying to come back in the game, but trainers thought it would be best to hold him out as well. And then Josh Metellus had a shoulder, but was battling through that and able to return,” said O’Connell.

Losing your starting left tackle is brutal for the Vikings, especially one of Darrisaw’s caliber. He didn’t have his best game of the day either, struggling to handle Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons. That’s not the biggest issue in the world, as Parsons is a top-three defensive player in the league, but it’s frustrating nonetheless.

Jackson left the game shortly after Darrisaw did. Now, we did get word that he wanted to come back into the game, but trainers thought it was smart to hold him out, as the game was basically out of reach. All of a sudden, on those last drives, you have two backups on the left side of the line, and that’s not a recipe for helping your young quarterback.

Metellus got banged up throughout the game, but he did stay in and play the majority of snaps. He looked like he hurt his knee in the first quarter, but returned quickly. Then, he suffered a shoulder injury. It’s that time of year, and the Vikings can’t afford to have that many injuries.

We will keep you updated throughout the week on all of these players, and it’s certainly a possibility they could miss next week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
