J.J. McCarthy's admission about his Vikings' status has nothing to do with Aaron Rodgers and it's easy to see why

The Minnesota Vikings are moving forward with quarterback J.J. McCarthy as their starter, but it's not official right now. McCarthy told Kay Adams on Up and Adams Tuesday that he hasn't been told what his status is.
"They haven't told me," McCarthy said. "I'm happy they didn't, because I try to earn it every single day, and I never want that to be given to me. and it's such a privilege and opportunity to give that give me that chance, and I'm just going to make the most of it every single day."
J.J. McCarthy has yet to be named QB1
The biggest question surrounding the Vikings is all about what will happen at quarterback. Rumors have been swirling for a couple of weeks about the Vikings and Aaron Rodgers. In fact, McCarthy's admission has brought up more questions about the position, even restarting the Rodgers discussion.
The Vikings not naming McCarthy QB1 isn't because they don't believe him. They certainly do. It's why they took him at 10th overall after trading up one spot. The reason they haven't officially given him the job of QB1 is that they want him to earn it.
The Vikings have been steadfast with their actions when it comes to McCarthy. They want a veteran quarterback in the building to both push and mentor McCarthy and have him earn the job. Sure, a quarterback competition this summer might be a farce and one McCarthy is sure to win, but they want him to prove he's the guy for the job.
That aspect is a part of the special culture the Vikings have built over the first three years of Kevin O'Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah's tenure. It's a very important thing for them to continue curating, as they want to grow this franchise into a Super Bowl contender.
Yes, the Vikings have entertained both Rodgers, along with bringing in the likes of Ryan Tannehill and retaining Daniel Jones. However, those aren't a signal of anything with McCarthy other than wanting a veteran in the building.
Make no mistake, the Vikings are still very high on McCarthy, and he will be QB1, barring something major happening.
