The Minnesota Vikings are capitalizing on a strategy that led to early success just a season ago.
In 2022, the Vikings held joint practices with the San Francisco 49ers in the week leading up their preseason showdown. Head coach Kevin O’Connell clearly enjoyed the preseason litmus test as he announced Minnesota will be hosting joint practices with the Arizona Cardinals and the Tennessee Titans this time around.
Most teams in today’s NFL have adopted joint practices with preseason opponents to help mix things up in training camp. Lining the offense and defense up against one another can get stale quickly, so inserting new players in different jerseys is a refreshing sight and is typically mutually beneficial.
The Vikings will first hold joint practice with the Titans ahead of the game scheduled for Week 2 of the preseason (Aug. 19). Minnesota then follows that up when the Cardinals get in town ahead of the preseason finale scheduled for Aug. 26.
Iron sharpens iron in the weeks leading up to the regular season. Tennessee’s physicality and Arizona’s unique offensive approach will give the Vikings plenty of different looks to prepare both sides of the ball for early season matchups against the Buccaneers, Eagles and Chargers, among others.
