Minnesota Vikings first-round draft pick Jordan Addison is entering his rookie campaign with significant expectations. Unfortunately Addison hasn’t been able to get acclimated with his new teammates at OTAs.

Addison picked up an unspecified injury at rookie minicamp. Though head coach Kevin O’Connell hasn’t gone into detail about what is ailing Addison, he reassured Vikings nation that it isn’t anything major.

"We’re being overly cautious with him right now,” O’Connell said on Tuesday. “Something that popped up towards the end of rookie minicamp. Nothing serious at all. Kind of a day-to-day thing that we’re working through."

Though every practice will be critical in order for Addison to hit the ground running in the regular season, there is no reason to push him in the voluntary portion of the offseason. Stacking reps within his new offense absolutely matters, but Addison’s health takes priority as things currently stand in late May.

It should be noted that Justin Jefferson has been absent during OTAs, though he has been in communication with O’Connell as he trains elsewhere. Obviously O’Connell would prefer to have every player out there putting in work, but 100 percent attendance is rare for teams across the NFL during this time period.

Mandatory minicamp kicks of June 13-14 for the Vikings. Hopefully Addison will be ready to compete when those dates get closer. He will be leaning on Jefferson to show him the ropes and help him in digesting his new playbook. This receiving duo will likely dictate just how far Minnesota’s offense can carry the team in 2023.
