The Minnesota Vikings just checked off the most important box of their 2023 offseason. On Tuesday, the Vikings officially exercised the fifth-year option for superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

By picking up Jefferson’s fifth-year option, Minnesota will owe the NFL’s top wideout $19.743 million in 2024. With that being said, Jefferson is in for a monstrous pay day whenever the Vikings inevitably elect to offer him a contract extension.

Jefferson became the youngest player in NFL history to lead the league in receptions (128) and receiving yards (1,809). He also managed to set franchise records for catches and receiving yards in just his third season in the NFL.

In his three-year career with the Vikings Jefferson has compiled a total of 324 receptions, 4,825 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns. He flirted with the NFL’s first 2,000-yard season by a wide receiver in 2022 and is poised to do it again in the upcoming season.

Whenever the Vikings dish out his next contract it will undoubtedly break any and all barriers previously held by the league’s top receivers. Jefferson is a generational talent and one that Minnesota must hold onto at all costs.
