Over the weekend, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported that teams were going to make calls to trade for Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell

"There are multiple teams that actually are considering trying to trade for Kevin O'Connell. And the reason why, next year, the last year of his deal, had no contract talks yet at all. And look, if your team is out there saying, why not take a shot, see if we can do it? Maybe the Vikings don't let it happen. But also, Kevin O'Connell kind of has the cards. Hey, listen, I'm not going to resign there, so you might as well get something for me. I don't know, because obviously I don't think Kevin knows about this right now. But there are multiple teams who have them on that board to see. Let's at least try and see."

Kevin O'Connell shuts down trade rumors

Those reports felt wild, but they make sense when you look between the lines. Nowhere does Glazer say that the Vikings are interested in making a move. It's all speculation from teams that would be interested in him because of course they are. O'Connell is arguably the Coach of the Year.

During Monday's press conference, ESPN's Kevin Seifert asked O'Connell about those rumors and he gave a very blunt response.

"Yeah, I'm not really interested in kind of, I guess I should say, addressing the rumors or or speculation. What I can tell you is I love this team. I love everything about this organization, and this is where I want to be. This is where I want to keep coaching and leading."

These conversations only came up because of O'Connell's contract status. He currently is on the final year of his contract which is standard protocol for Vikings ownership. The Wilf's have often waited until the final year of the coach and general manager's contracts to discuss extensions. Those talks will take place after the season.

O'Connell is set to be with the Vikings for a long time and that won't change for a long time, especially if he keeps up his 0.667 winning percentage.
