There were a lot of worries surrounding the Minnesota Vikings that left on Tuesday when they announced the extension of head coach Kevin O'Connell. That was one of the most important things the Vikings needed to do going into the year and they got it done.

Going into the contract extension, there were a lot of different vibes out there. Rumors of tension between O'Connell and ownership were swirling as well as trade rumors started by Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, who reported it on the Fox NFL Sunday pregame show the morning of the Vikings' game against the Detroit Lions.

Jay Glazer stands by Kevin O'Connell trade report

The report of O'Connell getting traded didn't make a lot of sense, but that also wasn't quite the report that Glazer had. He said that other teams would be ready to inquire about trading for O'Connell.

"There are multiple teams that actually are considering trying to trade for Kevin O'Connell. And the reason why, next year, the last year of his deal, had no contract talks yet at all. And look, if your team is out there saying, why not take a shot, see if we can do it? Maybe the Vikings don't let it happen. But also, Kevin O'Connell kind of has the cards. Hey, listen, I'm not going to resign there, so you might as well get something for me. I don't know, because obviously I don't think Kevin knows about this right now. But there are multiple teams who have them on that board to see. Let's at least try and see."

Naturally, things got a little spicy after the O'Connell extension on social media. There were some that went after Glazer for his report with The 33rd Team's Ari Meirov saying he had so many questions about the report and Glazer had no problem defending himself.

Welp, the timing was because that is when our show airs Fox NFL SUNDAY. Not Wednesday or Thursday. SUNDAY. Every year for probably the last 15 years the same weekend I do my ANNUAL coaching carousel segment and usually drop nuggets that day that aren’t known. I don’t work for Twitter, I work for FOX so I wait til Sunday to drop news. I hold news very often to use on FOX only.

Oh and btw, yes, there were in fact MULTIPLE teams interested in trading for KOC, and yes Vikings were aware of that. I never reported he’s being traded bc that’s up to Vikings. Just that he was on several team’s to try to trade for. They did the smart thing by moving quickly to ensure he would happily be the Vikings head coach for years

Did my job reporting what was going on behind the scenes in some of these searches. This narrative that i reported it to screw the Vikings when they were going to play the Lions is the dumbest shit I’ve ever read… and I’ve read some realllly dumb shit over the years.

Hope this helps

It's really important to note the nuance in the report. He never said that the Vikings wanted to make the trade or that he would, but rather that several teams wanted to try to trade for him. That distinction is very important.

However, the nuance surrounding why O'Connell didn't have an extension yet should have been mentioned, but alas.
