The Minnesota Vikings have made a couple of splashes in the free agency pool. With that being said, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah still has plenty of work to do in order for the Vikings to be considered a serious threat in the NFC.

The Vikings still have a handful of question marks on the defensive side of the ball. Cornerback and linebacker are at the top of the list, followed closely by pass rusher after Za’Darius Smith requested his release earlier this offseason.

Minnesota can only solve one of those issues with the No. 23 overall pick in the draft. In Pro Football Network’s most recent mock draft the Vikings address its linebacker position with Trenton Simpson out of Clemson.

LB Trenton Simpson – Clemson

From PFN: It’s been some time since we haven’t seen a linebacker selected in Round 1 of an NFL Draft, and, despite some notions to the contrary, 2023 will be no different. Trenton Simpson can play well at every single level of defense and excels in coverage. That coverage talent will go far as he helps the Vikings’ unit immediately.

Not only does Simpson bring a hard-nosed approach to the linebacker position, but his coverage abilities mesh with what defensive coordinator Brian Flores is looking for.

In three seasons at Clemson, Simpson played in 33 games and compiled 165 tackles, 23 TFLs, 13 sacks and three forced fumbles.

Simpson is an immediate upgrade in the linebackers room and could slot in as a Day 1 starter if he produces in training camp. If PFN’s prediction comes true Vikings fans should be thrilled with the team’s selection.
