There wasn't much of a question on offense for the Minnesota Vikings coming into this season; this group was going to live and die by the pass.

Throwing the ball was always going to be key for a team like this with Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson, but the loss of both players at various points in the season created a need for some diversity in the attack.

Sadly, the Vikings got next to no production where it mattered out of Alexander Mattison as the RB1, and his zero rushing touchdowns on the year point to a clear need for the Vikings next season.

Not only is zero rushing touchdowns by the leading rusher history for the Minnesota Vikings, but it also played a role in Minnesota having just four total rushing touchdowns by running backs this season.

Joshua Dobbs helped keep the total rushing number a bit higher in the touchdown category, but there is still a clear problem for the Vikings in this regard.

While we could argue that there is a clear issue with the rush across the board, the red zone is the obvious concern for now. Minnesota basically having the throw the ball for a touchdown or not getting one at all plays a role in making life easier for opposing defenses.

Perhaps a bit more depth on offense could've shifted some of those one-score losses for the Vikings and put them in more off a playoff position.

Regardless, the season is over, and the focus now is on getting better for next year. That means a running back in the draft or a big free agent should be on the horizon.

One way or another, four rushing touchdowns over a whole season is unacceptable for the running back room. Perhaps letting Dalvin Cook go was not the decision many thought it was.
