With veterans set to report to camp a week from Tuesday, the Minnesota Vikings' highly anticipated 2024 campaign is almost here. But almost isn't close enough, as talented second-year pro Jordan Addison has been arrested during the last part of his summer vacation.
Jordan Addison arrested for alleged DUI
On Friday night at about 11:06 p.m., the Los Angeles Communications Center notified the California Highway Patrol that a disabled vehicle was blocking lanes from the westbound Glen Anderson (105) Freeway to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard, according to an arrest report obtained by the Southern California News Group.
Officers responding to the area reported a white Rolls-Royce blocking the number one lane of the freeway “with the driver asleep behind the wheel,” according to the arrest report. A spokesperson for the CHP confirmed Sunday that the driver was asleep when officers arrived at the scene.
Addison, 22, was arrested at approximately 11:36 p.m. after a DUI investigation was complete. He was released at 1:36 a.m. Saturday, the report added. No other information was immediately available from the CHP Sunday. – Luca Evans, L.A. Daily News
What Happens Now?
There is a sad irony in this situation when you consider that Khyree Jackson, who was Addison's teammate since April, died in an accident that is believed to have been caused by a drunk driver. Addison is presumed innocent until proven guilty but the arrest charge is damning if true.
Looking to build off his monumental rookie season, the arrest only thwarts a Vikings team that has a ton of optimism surrounding them. After drafting who they believe to be their franchise QB, J.J. McCarthy, the team selected arguably the best pass rusher in the draft via Dallas Turner and extended All-Pro WR Justin Jefferson.
No team wants this kind of news, but in light of the team's recent tragedy and the proximity in time to training camp, the incident quite literally could not have come at a worse time.
From a disciplinary standpoint, Addison was released as stated in the report, but will obviously have a court date and could also face judgment from the league via their personal conduct policy.
For now, GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and HC Kevin O'Connell are just hoping their phones don't ring until the 23rd.
