Vikings owner chimes in on Kirk Cousins' future with team
Vikings owner Mark Wilf joined Good Morning Football to discuss Kirk Cousins’ future in Minnesota.
Over the last week, reports have surfaced stating that Kirk Cousins’ future with the Minnesota Vikings could be in question.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Vikings are not expected to offer Cousins a contract extension this offseason. Vikings owner Mark Wilf joined Good Morning Football on Monday to discuss the situation.
When asked about Cousins’ future in Minnesota, this is how Wilf responded:
“Kirk’s an outstanding quarterback, he’s done a great job for us. This past season with Kevin O’Connell took our offense to the next level. So we’re looking for great things in ’23 and Kirk’s gonna be our leader on the offense.”
Oftentimes in the NFL it’s important to live in the moment and only worry about the present. That being said, security at the quarterback position trumps everything else.
Wilf’s comments come off as being non-committal towards Cousins past the 2023 season. Much can change over the course of a season, but Cousins showed enough last year to earn trust with the Vikings brass.
Cousins earned his fourth Pro Bowl nod in 2022, leading the league with eight comeback wins. Entering his second season in O’Connell’s system it would not be surprising to see Cousins and the offense find that next gear in the 2023 season.
