On Saturday afternoon against the Houston Texans, the Minnesota Vikings had two injuries to the offensive line. Center Zeke Correll broke his ankle late in the game, likely ending his season, or at the very least, preventing him from being involved early on in the regular season.

Unknown right after the game, it appears that one more offensive lineman ended up suffering an injury, and he landed on injured reserve right after he ended up joining the Vikings.

Vikings claim offensive lineman Michael Gonzalez off waivers

The other injured offensive lineman is Matt Nelson. He was just added to the roster, and was placed on injured reserve on Monday afternoon after suffering an injury during Monday night’s practice per the team’s website. His roster spot was filled by Michael Gonzalez, who the Vikings claimed off of waivers from the Atlanta Falcons.

Gonzalez was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent and was with them until after their game against the Detroit Lions last Friday. He didn’t end up playing against the Lions, but the game was suspended just 10 seconds into the fourth quarter after Lions safety Morice Norris suffered an apparent neck injury and left the field in an ambulance.

Across his 51 games in college, Gonzalez started in 32 of them. He has played both guard and tackle spots at Louisville, with all 757 of his offensive snaps coming at left guard this past season. He will come in and be a swing player for the Vikings during the final two weeks of the preseason.
