The Vikings understand how to maximize what they have on the roster. To start the season, they had Tonyan on the practice squad past week one so they didn't have to fully guarantee his salary. Then, after two practice squad elevations, they brought him to the active roster with Nick Muse on injured reserve to preserve that final elevation. Now that T.J. Hockenson is likely to return, Tonyan can have that elevation saved until it's needed.

Richter has already been elevated twice and has earned his elevation. The UDFA out of Air Force has experience playing both on and off the ball while also thriving on special teams.
