Has there been a bigger story this season than Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold

He came to Minnesota on a one-year contract worth $10 million to be the bridge quarterback to rookie J.J. McCarthy. That idea was to get Darnold some playing time to rehab his image and potentially score himself a big contract somewhere else.

Well, Darnold has done a little more than just rehab his image. He's taken things to a new level and has everyone questioning whether or not he should end up staying on as the starting quarterback.

Sam Darnold now eligible for prestigious award

Going into the season, the National Football League changed the rules for the Comeback Player of the Year award after quarterback Joe Flacco won the award when he beat out Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who died on the field at the end of the 2022 season.

The rules were changed to a player having returned from injury, not someone who overcame other circumstances, like being older and potentially washed like Flacco was.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio has opined that votes for Darnold as Comeback Player of the Year will be counted and he received confirmation from the Associated Press that votes for Darnold will be counted. Considering the season that Darnold has had, it feels pretty likely that he will win the award.
