The Minnesota Vikings kicked off their 2023 offseason with two cost efficient moves that should bring plenty of excitement to its fanbase.

On Friday, the Vikings announced that it had come to terms with two players who were set to become exclusive rights free agents. Minnesota re-signed DT Khyiris Tonga and OT Blake Brandel to one-year deals worth $940,000.

Tonga was a fantastic mid-season acquisition from the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad. He played in 11 games for the Vikes, starting in two, and recorded 28 tackles and 0.5 sacks. He proved to be one of Minnesota’s more impactful run stuffers in the defensive interior.

Brandel played in nine games in 2022, starting in three games. He did a nice job filling in at left tackle when Christian Darrisaw went down with a concussion. Though he’s spent most of his time on the outside, his versatility makes him a valued depth piece up front.

The Vikings certainly benefited from the exclusive rights deals. Minnesota was able to retain two impactful players in the trenches, who have shown the ability to contribute in 2023. Count this as the first win of the offseason for general manager Kewsi Adofo-Mensah and the Vikings’ front office.
