Injuries persist
The injury bug bites everyone a little bit differently. The Vikings have seen their fair share and it continued on Saturday.
Defensive end Jerry Tillery was carted off the field during practice with what appeared to be an ankle injury. He was on the ground for a few minutes and was carted off the field.
Cam Bynum continues to show why he’s earned an extension
If you need some more information on why Bynum should get a contract extension, this training cam has been that evidence.
He’s been all over the place during training camps and got to show his chops in lan coverage during one-on-ones. He was lined up against Brandon Powell on the outside and broke up a comeback route by utilizing excellent patience to break on the route.
The Vikings have plenty of salary cap space to extend Bynum this year and beyond. Will they be hesitant to get it done with Theo Jackson waiting in the wings? Perhaps, but it would be wise to do it now.
J.J. McCarthy getting more reps with the ones
It happened for the first time on Friday afternoon as McCarthy got reps with the first team in red zone drills. On Saturday, he got another opportunity and took advantage of it.
The highlight came when he ripped a pass to Justin Jefferson that elicited a massive response from the crowd. His game still has holes, especially because he does not see things fast enough with his progressions. That will come with time, but he’s not at a point where he should start over Sam Darnold just yet.
The end for Andrew Booth Jr. could be near
Things are not going well for the 2022 second-round pick. He got beaten in his rep in one-on-ones and has been relegated to the third-team defense.
Could the Vikings be preparing to trade Booth to give him a fresh start? It might be best at this point.
Jeshaun Jones continues to impress
The Vikings made a major investment into Jones this offseason when they gave him $225k as an undrafted free agent, the same amount they gave Gabriel Murphy.
In the opportunities he’s been presented, Jones has thrived. He is catching everything that comes his way as well as catching passes in traffic. Don’t be surprised if Jones earns a roster spot with his play.
