The Minnesota Vikings are still dealing with injuries ahead of their season debut against the Chicago Bears, but they got some positive news with left tackle Christina Darrisaw and Harrison Smith getting improvements in their status from Thursday’s practice. Friday’s practice was a walkthrough and is considered an estiamtion per the team.
| Player | Injury | Status |
| EDGE Andrew Van Ginkel | Neck | Full |
| WR Jalen Nailor | Hand | Full |
| LT Christian Darrisaw | Knee | Full |
| S Harrison Smith | Illness | Limited |
| RB Zavier Scott | Ankle | DNP |
| DL Elijah Williams | Hamstring | DNP |
Christian Darrisaw and Harrison Smith see improvements
Going into Friday’s practice, all eyes were going to be on both Smith and Darrisaw due to their “did not participate” designations from Thursday. With Darrisaw coming off of a torn ACL, there wasn’t a lot of knowledge about how the Vikings were going to handle him.
We are now 10 months removed from Darrisaw’s ACL reconstruction surgery, as it’s usually a nine month recovery time. That’s what T.J. Hockenson had, but it’s a little bit more complicated with a left tackle, as Darrisaw weighs significantly more.
Taking Thursday’s practice off was likely a part of the plan of his ramp up period. Him being a full participant, even if it’s just an estimation, is a good thing.
It’s a little bit different with Smith, as he’s been dealing with an undisclosed illness. The only thing that we know for sure is it’s not mental health related. If he continues on this path, it’s going to be more likely that he plays on Monday night.
Nailor and Van Ginkel continued their full participation, which makes them very likley to play on Monday, while both Williams and Scott are probably out. It’s going to be disappointing to see Williams not make their season debut on Monday night, but they will be healthy soon.
Saturday’s report is going to tell us everything we need to know.
