The Minnesota Vikings are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon, and the biggest stories are going to be with the injuries.

The starters have lost over 20 games this season due to injuries, and it’s especially been tough on the offensive line. From left tackle Christian Darrisaw missing the first two games to Ryan Kelly on injured reserve and Will Fries as the only starter playing during the game-winning drive against the Cleveland Browns, it’s been rough for the Vikings. And to top it all off, starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy has been out for the last three games.

The first injury report is out, and the Vikings have some good news coming from it.

Observations

  • This is a big injury report, especially at quarterback. McCarthy practicing is a good sign, but being limited only raises more questions. He will likely need to be a full participant in practice on Friday at the bare minimum to start on Sunday.
  • Jackson and O’Neill being limited is a good sign for both to return. Jackson will be four weeks removed from wrist surgery, and O’Neill three weeks from injuring his knee on a field goal block.
  • Cashman just had his 21-day practice window opened, and a full practice nearly six weeks removed from his hamstring injury is a great sign, especially for the run defense.

Observations

  • The biggest names on the list are Mitchell, Carter, and Baun. Mitchell left Thursday’s game against the New York Giants with a hamstring injury, and Carter was a late scratch with a heel injury. Their progress with said injuries is going to be huge when it comes to whether or not they get to play.
  • Davis will be huge, both literally and metaphorically, in stopping the run game for the Vikings. Jordan Mason has been a force in the run game for the Vikings, and not having a big force in the middle like Davis would be a major blow for Vic Fangio’s defense.
