Bill Belichick's career could take a career that nobody saw coming.
Inside Carolina reports that the former New England Patriots head coach has interviewed for the head coaching vacancy at the University of North Carolina.
The Tar Heels fired Mack Brown last week, and Belichick is "among a group of candidates" UNC has spoken with.
However, this move doesn't really make much sense for Belichick.
And that's because he is so close to accomplishing something incredible in the National Football League.
Belichick currently has 333 wins, sitting behind Don Shula who has 347. But it's a record that Belichick could certainly get.
It was no secret that after he and the Patriots parted ways, Belichick would look for another job. All signs pointed to him going to the Atlanta Falcons prior to the season, but they went in a different direction.
So, this season, he has turned his attention towards media. But with so many coaches on the hot seat, there would be many key job openings heading into the 2025 season.
The Las Vegas Raiders have a 2-10 record, while the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears both have a 4-8 record. Think about him teaming back up with Tom Brady, or getting to work with either Joe Burrow or Caleb Williams.
That's why a move to the college side at this exact time makes no sense.
Making this decision would almost be like giving up, and that's not something Belichick is known for doing.
His resume speaks for itself, and any NFL team should definitely have Belichick at the top of their list.
We'll just have to wait and see.
