FOXBOROUGH, Mass – Bill Belichick had only one word to describe the fanbase in New England.
“Passionate. Very passionate," he told reporters on Friday morning.
From cheering at the high points, to booing at the low points, Belichick couldn't have picked a better word.
And it has truly showed this season.
The cheers and praise were the loudest during the dynasty run, turning into the fanbase every other team hated as the Patriots went on to win six Super Bowl championships.
You couldn't go anywhere without hearing the comments that Tom Brady is clearly the best quarterback and Belichick is the best coach in the history of the NFL.
However, one of those opinions has completely shifted this season.
Since Brady left, the Patriots have shown a steady decline and this year it hit the lowest point. With clear disfunction in the team now, people have begun to call for Belichick's job. And it seems Robert Kraft might be on the same page.
Throughout the home games this season, the boos have been very loud, often beginning as early as the first drive. While the do cheer when a good play is made, the boos are much, much louder at any sign of struggle.
So in short, he couldn't have picked a better word.
