For 24 years, the New England Patriots were led by Bill Belichick, who's leadership style was unique. But, after six Super Bowl championships, it was clear that it worked.
While he and the Patriots parted ways following the 2023 season, his legacy will forever live on.
Even quarterback Drake Maye, who was drafted just a few months after Belichick left, has noticed it. And it's felt at Gillette Stadium.
“I think the Patriot Way, practicing in whatever weather, lifting hard, and lifting hard during the week,” Maye said on Chris Long’s Green Light podcast.. “In season out of season, it doesn’t matter. We’re running sprints. We’re running the hills. I think that’s still kind of the Patriot Way. The hard work works: I think that is what his staple was, what he left on the organization. I think a lot of coaches, especially because we stayed inside of the Patriots tree as you’d call it coaching-wise, we still embrace that.”
The two got the opportunity to speak recently in Chapel Hill, with Maye returning to his alma mater, while Belichick prepares for his first season as University of North Carolina football head coach.
"I got to meet Coach Belichick," Maye expressed. "He was cool. He was awesome."
