Bill Simmons didn't hold back after the New England Patriots' loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

And he directed his criticism at one person in particular: Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo.

“This spring, Jerod Mayo needs to find an author to help him write a book called Scared Football,” Simmons posted to X. “Just throw all his scared concepts and strategies in there — passing up 4th and 1s, handing off on 3rd and 16 to set up 45 yard FGs, just rattle all of them off. SCARED FOOTBALL.”

This isn't the first time he's come after Mayo, also saying in October that "this is the worst-coached Pats team since Rod Rust," who lead the team in 1990.

The Ringer founder, who also is a Mass. native and big Boston sports fan, wants to see Mayo be more aggressive on certain plays. But the first-year head coach certainly was more reserved in Week 12's embarrassing loss.

Simmons even went on to say the game was "indescribable," and came after Patriots owner Robert Kraft too.

"It’s like a 2024 greatest hits compilation of all the bad coaching, dumb plays, scared coaching and inexplicable penalties this season. This team is getting worse. Kraft will do nothing and bring everyone back. No way he pays 2 coaches," he posted.

The Patriots were able to get their quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. But with a rookie in the pocket and a rookie leading the team, it was always going to be a rebuild.

However, considering Drake Maye's talent, no one expected the Patriots' record to be what it is. And the loss to the Dolphins was the worst New England has looked all season.

Simmons along with the other Patriots fans are frustrated, but patience is key with this team. Specifically, Mayo needs time with a competitive roster before people can start calling for his job.
