J.C. Jackson was not the right fit for the Los Angeles Chargers, so it was no surprise that they traded him back to the New England Patriots.

But there is more to Jackson's saga with the Chargers than fans originally knew. And ESPN's Kris Rhim detailed the reason why Los Angeles was so eager to trade the cornerback.

After Jackson was traded to the Patriots, Chargers general manager Tom Telesco stood in front of the team during a meeting and apologized to the players.

Prior to the 2022 season, Jackson signed a $82.5 million contract with the Chargers. He underwent ankle surgery during the preseason and was forced to miss the season opener, but returned the next game. However, he did not perform well and was benched during Week 6. In Week 7 he came back, but suffered a season-ending injury.

Jackson recorded a total of three tackles and one interception this season with the Chargers before being traded at the beginning of October after the Patriots lost rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez to injury.

So it was clear that the Chargers and Jackson did not get along.

According to Rhim, Telesco admitted that signing Jackson was a mistake and that they should not have continued to give him opportunities after he was "routinely showing that he wasn't as committed as the rest of the team"

Telesco had a perfect way to describe the signing: "a swing and a miss."

Jackson began his career with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2018, and made quite the impression. Across his first four season with New England, Jackson recorded 158 total tackles, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

But there was one statistic that gave him an impression nickname. In four years, Jackson had a total of 25 interceptions, earning the name of Mr. INT. He put up a season high nine interceptions in 2020 and followed it up with eight in 2021.

Now in his second stint with the Patriots, Jackson is caught up in a bit of drama at the moment after he was sidelined for the first few drives during the Patriots loss to the Commanders on Sunday. While Belichick said he wasn't benched, a report that came out shortly after said differently.

Seems like he can't escape the drama.
