New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft knew he had to make a major change following the 2024 season. And that started from the top, with him firing former head coach Jerod Mayo and bringing in Mike Vrabel.
Vrabel's coaching style is very different from Mayo's. That's no secret.
And quarterback Drake Maye spoke about how that will help the Patriots as they look to get back on top.
"First of all, Coach Vrabel, he's been a head coach somewhere else," Maye said on Chris Long’s Green Light podcast. "I think that'll maybe spice it up for us and get outside the Patriots tree technically. Although he's still within cause he played here as well. He knows about the defense and all of that.
"But being somewhere else and knowing what it's like to have success and being in the playoffs for a different city, different organization will be good for us.
And with that, he's looking forward to Vrabel's coaching style.
"I think he will bring some toughness, and kind of coach us hard. And we need to be coached. Even great players that we have, and veterans guys, we want to be coached hard."
Maye revealed that he's had the opportunity to speak with both Vrabel and new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels three to four times each.
And he also took a moment to speak about what it will be like to work with McDaniels.
"I'm trying to make a jump to my second year. You want to be coached hard and Coach McDaniels offensively will bring that for us. He coached the best to ever do it, and we'll get a chance to, 'Hey this is what Tom (Brady) was thinking on this play and this concept.'"
