Former New England Patriots offensive lineman Korey Cunningham was found dead at his home in New Jersey at the age of 28.

"The New England Patriots are saddened to learn of the unexpected passing of Korey Cunningham. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Korey's family, teammates and all who mourn his loss," the Patriots said in a statement on social media.

According to ESPN, Clifton police "had to force their way into Cunningham's house, where they found him deceased." A police spokesperson also told ESPN that the police are investigating but don't suspect foul play at this time.

Cunningham started his career with the Arizona Cardinals in 2018 as a seventh-round pick out Cincinnati. After his first season, he was traded to the Patriots, and spent the next two seasons in New England, appearing in 11 games.

At the end of training camp in 2021, Cunningham was cut by the Patriots and went on to sign with the New York Giants where he spent two years. He last played in the NFL in 2022.

Along with the Patriots, the Giants also released a statement on his passing.

"We are saddened to hear of the passing of Korey Cunningham,” the Giants wrote. “He was a vital part of the spirit and camaraderie of the locker room. Our thoughts are with Korey’s family, friends and teammates."
