On Sunday, a viral video showed former New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton getting involved in a fight at a youth 7-on-7 football tournament in Atlanta.

Newton was shoved by three people. The fight was broken up by a police officer and event security personnel soon after it started.

The altercation occurred at the We Ball Sports x DynastyU 7v7 tournament at B.E.S.T. Academy and video of the fight can be found here

According to the Athletic, two of the men who were fighting Newton were "coaches for TopShelf Performance and formerly coached with the quarterback"

TopShelf Performance released a joint statement after the incident.

“We are deeply concerned about the recent incident involving Cam Newton, and our thoughts are with all parties affected. Violence has no place in our community, and we strongly condemn any form of aggression,” they said to the Athletic.

Co-founder of We Ball Sports, Nehemiah Mitchell added that it was "an unfortunate situation" and everyone involved was removed from the event, including Newton.

"According to Mitchell, TopShelf beat C1N in a “heated game” with a lot of trash talk between the under-18 teams on Saturday. The tensions boiled over on Sunday," The Athletic's Lukas Weese and Joseph Person wrote.

Newton founded C1N, which is a 7-on-7 football program that participated in the event. His camp has not responded to multiple organizations who have asked for comments.

The quarterback began his career in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers as the first overall pick in the 2011 Draft. He was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year and then was named the MVP during the 2015 season.

He was released by the Panthers in 2020 and went on to sign a one-year deal with the Patriots. Throughout his first season in New England, he was named the starter but the team truly struggled. And he was re-signed in 2021, but ultimately lost the starting role to Mac Jones.
