FRANKFURT, Germany — Before beginning, I first want to say that I think a lot of the blame for the New England Patriots' poor performance this season falls on Bill Belichick's shoulders.

Because of that, there needs to be a lot of hard discussions and changes made after this season.

But regardless of Dianna Russini's report that it could be a mutual parting of ways after the season, firing Belichick is not the answer. Instead, they should keep him.

Now I know many of you are thinking 'What is she even saying right now?'

However, I think six Super Bowl championships prove what he's capable of. And because of that, he deserves the chance to turn things around next season, preferably with a new quarterback.

That and he's known to be a defensive mastermind, which has been shown in glimpses with the players on defense this season. However, with even more talent, he can be even more.

When Belichick first took over as head coach of the Patriots in 2000, the team finished with a 5-10 record. And that included sitting at 2-8 (including their bye week) by Week 11.

And I'm sure people were calling for his job after this. But he tuned it out (or used the outside noise as motivation) and went on to create a dominant team.

Things aren't always a quick turnaround, and everybody knew that life after Tom Brady was going to be tough.

But that being said, not many coaches would have been able to bring in a new quarterback and switch the style of offense in such a short amount of time. Signing Cam Newton, Belichick led the team to a 7-9 record. While it is still a losing record, the Patriots managed to get a decent amount of wins despite being without someone whom the team had relied on since 1999.

So moral of the story: Don't give up on him yet.

Changing everything is not what this team needs right now. Bringing in an outside coach, which often means new personnel, a new quarterback, and new players would be a lot for the Patriots to deal with after everything that went wrong this year.

Get a new quarterback, and better weapons, and build up the team once again so it can be competitive. If the Patriots do that with Belichick still leading the way, people won't be calling for his job anymore.
