Aaron Rodgers recovery has been something that no one saw coming.
After going down 75 seconds into his first game with the New York Jets with a torn Achilles, Rodgers has been working to get back on the field. And all eyes pointed to him coming back before the end of the 2023 season.
However, that might not be the case anymore. With the Jets likelihood (or unlikelihood) of making the playoffs, Rodgers may opt to stay sidelined and return in 2024.
"I think it's always been, first, am I healthy," Rodgers said during his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. "Then are we alive? Are we in it? Are we playing good enough to make a run. Can I step in and protect myself and play at the level that I feel like I'm capable of playing."
With that there is one question he is mainly asking himself: "Can I help the team and not hurt the team by being out there?"
Rodgers getting injured so early on was a nightmare situation for the Jets, who were thought to be serious Super Bowl contenders. However, they were forced to go back to Zach Wilson as the starter. And that clearly has not worked out. Now they have even switched to Tim Boyle, but the outcome is no better.
Heading into Week 13, the Jets are currently have a 4-7 record, only beaten by the New England Patriots in the division who are at 2-9.
So with that, while all signs were pointing in the right direction for Rodgers' potential miraculous return, the Jets current record might mean the quarterback will not be back until 2024.
