The New York Jets are not in favor of Bill Belichick's renowned motto.
And that was clear in the first episode of HBO's Hard Knocks, with viewers getting an in-depth look inside the Jets training camp.
During a meeting led by defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, the coach made sure to get his point across, while also taking a dig at the "Do Your Job," motto.
"Do my job — is that good enough? F— no," Ulbrich said. "That's the rest of the NFL, isn't it? 'Do your job. Do your job.' F— that. Do your job, then now what? If we all do our job and a f—ing little bit more, that's 22 (players) playing. So then the question goes to the offense, ‘Now what?'"
Since Bill Belichick took over the Patriots, their identity has centered around winning. And much of that relates to the "Do You Job" outlook, which emphasizes that each player is accountable for their role on the team.
But apparently that's now how Ulbrich or the Jets view things.
The Jets are heading into a major year for the franchise, having brought in MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. And the focus is on winning, which was clear in the season premiere of "Hard Knocks".
Ulbrich is entering his third season as the Jets defensive coordinator, and is all to familiar with the Patriot way. Prior to his time in New York, he was on the Atlanta Falcons coaching staff during the historic Super Bowl LI, with the Patriots coming back from a 28-3 halftime deficit to win.
So the longstanding AFC East rivalry might hold a little more meaning for Ulbrich.
The Patriots will face the Jets in Week 3 at MetLife Stadium, and all eyes will be on that game. Will Belichick's motto be enough for New England or will the Jets come out on top?
Guess we'll have to wait and see.
