The New York Jets are taking a swing on a former New England Patriots Day 2 draft picks.

The Jets are signing offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste, a source told the New York Post’s Brian Costello. Cajuste, a 2019 third-round pick out of West Virginia, was released by the Patriots May 18 after he was retained as a restricted free agent earlier in the offseason.

Cajuste played just 17 games in four seasons with New England as he was hampered with injuries before his NFL career even began. He started two games in 2021 and three in 2022 but was buried on the depth chart behind Trent Brown, Riley Reiff, Calvin Anderson and Conor McDermott heading into the offseason.

Cajuste joins a Jets tackle depth chart that includes Mekhi Becton, Duane Brown, undrafted free agent Brent Laing, Max Mitchell, Adam Pankey, Greg Senat, Eric Smith, Billy Turner and 2023 fourth-round pick Carter Warren.

It’s somewhat fitting that the Jets grabbed a former Patriots offensive tackle. It’s been widely assumed that New England allowed the Pittsburgh Steelers to trade up in front of the Jets in the 2023 NFL Draft to keep New York from taking Georgia offensive tackle Broderick Jones.
