A possible head coaching vacancy in New England has been all the talk as of late.

And on Friday, Julian Edelman voiced his opinion on two of the top candidates to potentially take over.

Appearing on Pardon My Take, Edelman was asked who he would rather see as the next head coach of the Patriots: Jerod Mayo or Mike Vrabel.

"Ooh, that's tough. I'm a fan of both," Edelman said. I think that Vrabel is an unbelievable head coach. I mean it seems like his team always squeaks away with wins they're not supposed to have. I mean they've been one seeds. They've built something in Tennessee that's pretty competitive for the last (six years).

"Jerod, he's one of the smartest football players I played with," Edelman added. "Jerod knows football, but he hasn't had a head coaching role yet."

The Patriots immense struggles this season have led to many calling for Bill Belichick's job. And based on recent reports, it seems Robert Kraft is seriously considering this.

And while it may seem hard to believe that this is a topic of discussion after Belichick won six Super Bowl championships as the head coach of the Patriots, Edelman did address the possibility.

"I think it's a reality that's going to come. I won't believe it until it's done. But when the media starts getting on this and starts talking about it, there is smoke, there's fire. I just hope it's handled correctly. Like professionals because Bill was a huge part of the success that we had. He laid the template. Mr. Kraft was a huge part of the success that we had. Tom Brady was a huge part. It's a team sport.

And I think he's the best coach that I ever had. I always felt prepared; I always felt like we had nuggets on teams, and we had a competitive advantage because of how we prepared and the time that the coaching staff always put into the game.

Could I see him coach for another team? It's going to be weird, but yeah. This is the National Football League. Everyone gets fired. He used to say that all the time. Bill would always say, 'Everybody gets fired in this business.'

And I remember him talking about the media once and he was like, one of the things on how we were supposed to handle the media. He was like, 'They're just looking for a story. There is going to be a day when they throw me under the bus.'

And it looks like it is that day."

The Patriots are looking at a complete reset next season, but it is unsure if that will go as far as changing the the head coach. However, if this is the direction that Kraft decides to go in, Edelman chimed in on who the team should look to hire next.

"So if I were to go that route of hiring a coach with the pick that they are probably going to have, I would want to probably have an offensive-minded guy."
