The New Orleans Saints currently hold the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but they could be looking to move up, especially considering the latest news surrounding its starting quarterback.
On Friday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Carr is "dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for this season." He is "weighing options, including the possibility of surgery."
So, that means they could be looking to select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. However, will he still be there at No. 9?
The Tennessee Titans are expected to take Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first overall pick. The Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, despite possibly needing future quarterbacks, are appearing to be leaning in a different different. The New England Patriots have the fourth pick, followed by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets, and Carolina Panthers.
Then it's the Saints turn.
Another team that could be in the quarterback market is the Raiders. So, the Saints might look to move up in the order and ensure they get the second best quarterback prospect this season.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf have both said they are open to trading the fourth overall pick. If that's the case, the Saints might be calling.
New England does have some needs heading into the draft, but they are ones that don't necessarily have to be addressed so early. Instead, the Patriots could look to get an additional high pick and even add one for next year.
We'll see what happens on Thursday, April 24, but expect New Orleans to at least inquire about the possibility.
