A talented linebacker might be available this offseason.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Tennessee Titans have given linebacker Harold Landry permission to seek a trade.

And bringing him to New England makes a lot of sense.

Landry was drafted by Mike Vrabel in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Boston College. He has spent all six years of his career in Tennessee, recording 50.5 career sacks. Specifically in 2021, he was named to the Pro Bowl with a career-high 12 sacks.

Linebacker is a need for the Patriots, and he's already familiar with Mike Vrabel. Plus, he spent his college career in Chestnut Hill, so he's already familiar with the area.

Landry has two years remaining on his contract, with a $17.5 million base salary for the next two season.

A to Z Sports' Titans reporter Easton Freeze provided some context on Landry and a potential trade.

"The situation just doesn’t work out on paper for Landry to stick with Tennessee going forward. There was simply no way Landry was staying with Tennessee on his current contract. He’s been the team’s leading cap casualty candidate all offseason, and this is a last-ditch effort from Tennessee before they face the prospect of outright cutting him," Freeze wrote.

The Titans decision to trade or cut Landry prior to June 1 will save $10.95 million in cap space and could free up  $17.5 million in cash.

The Patriots could attempt to get a trade done, but the other option is to wait this out and hope to pick him up if he's released.
