The New England Patriots brought in a key playmaker earlier this week, signing former Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a three-year, $69 million deal.

Diggs first visited with the head coach Mike Vrabel and the Patriots last week, and he made a strong impression. Specifically, on the Green Light podcast with Chris Long on Thursday, Vrabel opened up about why they decided to sign the receiver.

“Yeah, just trying to make sure we’re supporting Drake and supporting the football team,” Vrabel said. “And again, this is a highly competitive, confident receiver that’s produced throughout his career and multiple ways, play style. He’s got a play strength to him that you see that he can play physical, you know, route craft … good at the catch point, has been good in the red zone. There’s a play style to him that I’ve always appreciated, and that we want to continue to enhance and make sure that he’s doing things to help us.”

It's no secret that New England has been eyeing a veteran receiver this offseason, and Diggs is the one they were able to bring to Foxborough. However, the one thing that was holding teams back is he is coming off a season-ending ACL injury that he sustained in Week 8.

However, prior to that, he had six straight 1,000-yard seasons.

“It’s just his conversation, his demeanor, his attitude, and his presence have been, you know, great through our conversation,” Vrabel added about what stood out during Diggs' visit. “And hopefully we can continue to add good players.

And the receiver is just as excited about joining the Patriots, posting a photo to his Instagram story on Thursday that said it all.

Things are already off to a good start.
