FOXBOROUGH, Mass – The New England Patriots need a starting left tackle and that's something that will have to be addressed in the 2025 NFL Draft.
They currently hold the No. 4 overall pick and many are linking LSU tackle Will Campbell to the Patriots in mock drafts. However, there are concerns about his arm length.
So, that led to a very important question during head coach Mike Vrabel's pre-draft press conference.
A reporter asked the Vrabel if he feels there's a tackle in this class that would be worthy of being taken at four overall?
"I think there's some starting tackles that certainly will come in and start in the NFL," he replied. "I think that that's really what you start to look for, impact players. When you start picking that high, what they're going to do for you, what's the impact, what's the position, you talk about premium positions.
"That's where you weigh all the circumstances and end up making that pick. Do I think that there are starters in this draft that left tackle? Yes, I do."
That's a telling statement, but what he doesn't specify is if that's someone they feel they need to take with their first round pick or in one of the later rounds.
That will also be brought into question even more if either Colorado receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter or Penn State edge Abdul Carter is available. At this point, it seems likely that Hunter will be going to the Cleveland Browns. But, the New York Giants continue to be the biggest question mark.
They have made offseason additions at the quarterback position, making it so they don't have to draft for need so early. However, they have decided to host a few more private workouts with quarterback prospects, including Colorado's Shedeur Sanders. So, maybe they will decide to draft their quarterback for the future, leaving one of these top prospects available for New England.
And the good news if that's the case is that Vrabel sees a lot of potential in numerous starting caliber tackles.
