The Patriots kicked off mandatory minicamp on Monday.
All eyes are on wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who New England signed to a three-year, $69 million contract back in March. Diggs was in a bit of hot water a few weeks ago when a viral social media post of him on a boat holding a pink substance during Memorial Day weekend surfaced.
"Obviously, we want to make great decisions on and off the field," Vrabel commented about the post.
Diggs would later participate in last week's OTAs, and is now also on the field for minicamp.
While speaking to the media on Monday, Vrabel had this to say about how Diggs has looked up to this point:
"Good," Vrabel said. "He's trying to figure out where everything is and what his role is and making sure that as we add those situations – the third down, the no-huddle and red zone – that he's staying up on it, working hard in his rehab. Certain drills he can be out there and there's certain drills that he won't be, but I think he's engaged and I like his energy."
Diggs' rehab from the torn ACL that he suffered back in October as a member of the Houston Texans appears to be progressing nicely. Before going down with the injury, he posted 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns in eight games played. Diggs had recorded six-straight seasons of over 1,000 receiving yards prior to the 2024 season.
Although he still has limitations, the fact that he can be on the field and participate in select drills in encouraging. We will get a better idea of Diggs' health status when the Patriots head to training camp in just over a month. Even if he remains limited, having him ready for Week 1 of the regular season is the ultimate priority.
