The New England Patriots will be without one of their top assistants next season.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reports that coach Ross Douglas is headed to Syracuse as the school's new wide receiver coach and will have a "significant role in the offense."

Douglas has been one of the Patriots best young assistants since joining the team, but is headed to try his hand at the collegiate level.

With the way this season has gone for the Patriots, Douglas could be one of many coaching changes in New England.

He was selected as the offensive coordinator during last season's Shrine Bowl.

Douglas began his time with the Patriots in 2021 as the defensive quality control coach. He then moved to assistant wide receivers coach in 2022, and was promoted to co-wide receivers coach this season alongside Troy Brown.

The coach played college ball, starting at the University of Michigan before transferring to Rutgers University. He went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft and after a tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers didn't work out, he turned to coaching.

Syracuse hired Fran Brown as the head coach late last month, having previously served as a defensive coach at Georgia. However, it was his recruiting efforts that stood out to Syracuse and led to the hire.

Brown has already made some major moves and landing Douglas is just the latest.
