FOXBOROUGH, Mass – Carlton Davis got to learn a bit about Terrell William's coaching style during the 2024 season.
The cornerback was traded to the Lions in March 2024 from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he officially signed to a one–year, $14.50 million contract just a few days later.
While Williams was the defensive line coach and run game coordinator, there were times when he addressed the entire group during meetings. And that's when Davis saw his coaching style on full display.
“He was a real cool dude, a real — he wasn't quiet, he wasn't loud," Davis told reporters on Thursday. "Always gave great presentations when he came to our defensive meetings. One of the best D-line coaches in the NFL. We always had a respect relationship where he understood what I brung to the game.
"It's always good when you get a good coach like that to give you respect and acknowledge what you do. I wasn't there for too long so I can't write a book about it, but obviously I gave a good impression on him, and he had a good impression from me.”
It's clear Davis is excited about getting to play for Williams.
With that, there has been a trend with most of the free agent signings, as the Patriots have brought in players they have ties to. But, that also applies to the coaching staff.
Williams has history with Vrabel, having spent six season with him in Tennessee. He was the Titans defensive line coach from 2018 to 2022, also adding assistant head coach responsibilities in 2023.
