The New England Patriots claim they have known for weeks that they were going to select University of North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the third overall pick in the NFL Draft.
So when the Patriots were on the clock, they didn't hesitate to let Maye know that he was headed North.
When speaking with reporters immediately after getting drafted, Maye revealed that as soon as the clock started, the Patriots called him.
"It was one of the moments I will remember forever," he said.
And he couldn't hide his excitement over joining a franchise with so much history.
"I'm stoked and super pumped," Maye said. "I can't wait to get to New England. I'm looking so forward to it."
Wolf told reporters that he was made aware that the Washington Commanders were planning to draft quarterback Jayden Daniels weeks ago. And it was no surprise that the Chicago Bears took Caleb Williams with the first overall pick.
So that left Maye available for the Patriots. And they knew that's who they wanted to help usher in this new era in New England.
In his first press conference as a Patriot, Maye also sent a very strong message to Patriots fans, letting them know exactly what fans can expect from him.
"A competitor and a winner. That's the main two things that comes to mind," Maye said. "I think I'm competing to win and that's what Patriots nation's about. That's what they know how to do. And I'm ready to come in and do that."
