It is officially confirmed: Mac Jones has earned the starting role in Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

However, that doesn't mean Bailey Zappe will be on the sidelines the entire time.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo confirmed The Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan's report that Jones was the starter on Sunday, but added one additional detail.

"But again, Bailey Zappe likely to be in the mix as well," Garafolo wrote on X, the app formerly known as Twitter.

This seems to indicate that a quarterback rotation might be in the Patriots game plan. So while Jones earned the official start, he hasn't done enough to truly prove that he's the top quarterback on the roster.

This move comes one day after the Patriots opted to waive third-string quarterback Will Grier. They also did not elevate Malik Cunningham prior to the game, leaving Jones and Zappe as the two lone quarterbacks on the active roster.

This situation has been an odd one, with the players on the team not even knowing what is going to happen throughout the week. And when asked about what his decision is going to be, Belichick has repeated the same sentence all week.

“I’ve told all the players the same thing: be ready to go,” Belichick has said throughout the week.

And it seems he's sticking true to those words, ready to throw Zappe in to the game at any given moment.

Let's see if this plan ends up working out, or if it backfires.
