The National Football League has shown its support for Israel after Hamas – an Islamist militant group – launched a surprise attack this past weekend, killing over 700 Israelis.

This included thousands of rockets that came from the Gaza Strip and landed in Israel. In response to the attack, Israel has formally declared war on Hamas, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu telling the country to prepare for "a long and difficult war.”

Along with launching rockets, Hamas entered Israel, attacking places across the country along with shooting civilians and taking hostages. One of the deadliest attacks occurred at a music festival near the Israel-Gaza border, leaving at least 260 dead and many captured.

At least 700 people in total have been killed in Israel and more than 400 have been killed in Gaza. Hamas has also claimed to have taken more than 130 people hostage, including some Americans. As of Monday morning, nine US citizens were among those killed by Hamas' attack.

Israel's Minister of Defense has now ordered the "complete siege" or Gaza, cutting off food, fuel, and water along with electricity.

In support of the surprise attack, the NFL world has voiced their support for Israel.
