Oddsmakers aren’t high on the New England Patriots’ offseason changes.
The Patriots have the seventh-longest odds to make the playoffs at +250, per BetOnline.
The only teams with worse odds are the Washington Commanders (+275), Indianapolis Colts (+325), Las Vegas Raiders (+350), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+350), Houston Texans (+600) and Arizona Cardinals (+1100). The Patriots are fourth in the AFC East behind the Buffalo Bills (-250), New York Jets (-135) and Miami Dolphins (-130).
The Patriots’ odds suggest they have a 76.5 percent chance of not making the playoffs.
New England is still led by head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Mac Jones. They didn’t make any dramatic upgrades to their roster, swapping in running back James Robinson for Damien Harris, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster for Jakobi Meyers and Nelson Agholor, tight end Mike Gesicki for Jonnu Smith and offensive tackles Riley Reiff and Calvin Anderson for Isaiah Wynn. What could help the six-time Super Bowl champions the most is replacing Matt Patricia and Joe Judge, who led the offense in 2022, with offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Bill O’Brien and offensive line coach Adrian Klemm.
That’s not enough to convince BetOnline, however, that the Patriots, who finished just outside the playoffs last season with an 8-9 record, will be in the postseason in 2023. The Patriots last won the Super Bowl in 2018. That was their last playoff win. They've missed the postseason in two of their last three seasons.
