FOXBOROUGH, Mass – Left tackle is the Patriots' biggest need heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, and based on the ways things have gone in free agency, it seems like they could address that as early as the No. 4 overall pick.

Many believe the Patriots are eyeing LSU tackle Will Campbell, but there is one thing that has had people second-guessing whether he is the right player for the tackle position. And that's because of his arm length.

At the NFL Combine, Campbell's arms measured at 32 5/8 inches, which is just a bit shorter than the 33 inches that the NFL typically wants tackles to be at. But, when he was measured by NFL scouts at LSU’s pro day, Campbell’s arm length was 33 inches.

But, while everyone else is speculating, the real question is what the Patriots think. And new offensive line coach Doug Marrone addressed this when speaking with reporters on Thursday.

“He’s been obviously productive,” Marrone said about Campbell. “I’ve not noticed [arm length] being an issue for him at the level that he’s at right now."

That's exactly what Campbell said at his Pro Day when reporters asked him about it.

“I think that I’ve shown everything I need to on tape to show I can play tackle at an elite level,” Campbell said. ”You can go look at my tape. There’s not one play on there that when I got beat you say, ‘Oh, that’s because he has shorter arms.’

“I don’t have stereotypical offensive tackle arms, but I’m aware of that. And that’s something that I use every week in my game plan and my preparation to attack different defenders.”

Based on this, it certainly seems Marrone is more focused on Campbell's play rather than his arm length.

“I think for a long time having done it, you create these measurements or parameters, and you just look at them and you say, ‘These are what we have, these are kind of standard, these are the kind of things you have to look at,‘” Marrone explained. “I’ve always looked at it as, ‘Do you play that way or do you play longer? Do you play to the max of what you have?’

“I’ve had guys in the past that have played for me that have 33 [or] 34 [inch arms] and haven’t played like that. I’ve had some guys that had some shorter arms and played like they had longer arms,” he added. “I just think it’s something that you bring up that you just want to make sure that you evaluate and see if it affects the player in a positive way or a negative way.”

This is certainly good news for Campbell, who it seems Marrone would feel comfortable with the Patriots taking so early in the draft.
