Who will be the New England Patriots starting quarterback on Sunday?
This is the biggest question in New England right now, but there still doesn't seem to be an answer.
On Friday, Bill Belichick spoke with reporters and was asked this question. However, he repeated the same answer he has stuck with all week.
"I told everybody to be ready to go," Belichick said. "I'm not going to announce starters at every position."
This mirrored what he said when asked on Wednesday.
“I’ve told all the players the same thing: be ready to go,” the head coach told reporters earlier this week. "I'll let you know on Sunday."
Mac Jones has served as the starter for the Patriots in all 10 games this season, but after he was benched in the Patriots loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt, Germany, it seemed that his time might be done.
The coaching staff had been quick to reaffirm that Jones will remain the starter earlier this season when he was benched in two prior games, but they didn't comment after the game in Germany.
This week, Jones has been competing with Bailey Zappe and Will Grier. While Malik Cunningham is still listed as a quarterback on the roster, it does not seem likely they he will get a chance.
As for how Jones feels about this whole thing, the third-year quarterback is confident that he still holds the starting role.
"Hope so," Jones said. "That’s the plan, I think.“
However, reporters asked Jones to clarify if that was only his plan or the team's plan.
"We’ll see," is all he said in response.
It seems that everyone will find out the Patriots starting quarterback prior to game time on Sunday. Until then, we are all left wondering.
