FOXBOROUGH, Mass – Before beginning his weekly Friday press conference, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick started by offering a statement after the tragedy in Lewiston, Maine. 

"Just start by sending our, on behalf of the team… our thoughts and prayers to people in Maine. Obviously a tragic situation. They're great fans of ours, great friends up there. And Maine's a great place. Obviously feel bad for the pain and situation they're going through," Belichick said. "Just very sad, difficult. So we're thinking of you down here with the Patriots. 

On Wednesday night, 40-year-old Robert Card of Bowdoin shot and killed 18 people at a bowling alley and restaurant in Lewiston, Maine. 13 people were also injured in the shooting. 

As reported by AP news, many parents and children were present at the bowling alley for a children’s bowling league.

Card is a certified firearms instructor and a member of the US Army Reserves. 

There is a manhunt for the suspect, with residents asked to shelter in place. 

On Thursday, the Robert Kraft also released a statement on the Patriots' social media platforms, sending his thoughts to the victims.
