FOXBOROUGH, MA – It appears the Jack Jones' legal situation is now in the past (for the most part).
On Tuesday, it was reported that the charges against Jones were dropped after he agreed to one year of pre-trial probation and 48 hours of community service.
With the New England Patriots playing in their first regular season game on Sunday, many wondered if Jones would be available. And, Bill Belichick has now weighed in.
"Yes, he should be available," Belichick said.
Jones was arrested on June 16 at Boston Logan International Airport for trying to bring two loaded firearms on a plane. He was charged with two counts of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.
Following his arraignment, Jones was due back in court on Aug. 18, but it was then continued until Sept. 15, hinting that a deal might be in the works. They then moved it up to Tuesday morning, agreeing on a deal.
While this is now settled, there is a still a question about whether the league will discipline Jones for his actions.
"I'm not going to get into that. Talk to the league, see what they have to say," Belichick said. "Anything from (the league) would come from them, not from me."
Jones is entering his second season with the Patriots after being drafted in the fourth round (121st overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft. He finished his rookie season with 30 total tackles (25 solo) with two interceptions and one touchdown.
However, despite the legal situation, he has still been in attendance for the entire preseason, reporting at the start of training camp.
"He's done a good job," Belichick said about what he's seen from the cornerback. "Been on the field. Playing in all the games, practiced. So, he's been out there."
