The New England Patriots are adding more competition to their cornerback group before rookie minicamp begins later this week.
The Patriots re-signed cornerback Tae Hates, the team announced Tuesday. Hayes was with the Patriots late last season after signing to the practice squad Dec. 27. He re-signed with New England on Jan. 6 but was waived Feb. 15.
He played 32 defensive snaps over two games with the Patriots in 2022 and let up two catches on three targets for 15 yards. He also played 16 special teams snaps.
Hayes, who's 5-foot-9, 188 pounds, also has spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers. He had a stint on the USFL's Birmingham Stallions, as well.
The 25-year-old defensive back went undrafted out of Appalachian State in 2019.
New England had three open roster spots before their undrafted free agent signings become official.
Hayes joins Jonathan Jones, Jack Jones, Marcus Jones, Myles Bryant, Quandre Mosely, Rodney Randle and rookies Christian Gonzalez, Ameer Speed and Isaiah Bolden on the Patriots' cornerback depth chart.
