The Patriots have made many additions to the coaching staff and roster during the offseason after struggling last season, but there are some that don't believe those changes are enough.
ESPN released its NFL Football Power Index for the 2023 season, projecting the records, playoff chances, and Super Bowl chances for each of the 32 teams.
And unfortunately for the Patriots, they are fairly low on the list.
ESPN has the Patriots odds to make the playoffs at 23.8 percent, and with only a 8.5 percent to win the division. All other AFC East teams are above New England, with the Buffalo Bills being fourth on the list overall with a 69.8 percent chance to make the playoffs and a 44.4 percent to win the division.
With the acquisition of MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the offseason, the New York Jets are behind the Bills in the division, with a 51.5 percent chance to make the playoffs, followed by the Miami Dolphins with a 47.8 percent chance.
Here are the full projections for the Patriots:
Record: 7.8-9.2
Playoff % : 23.8
Win Division % : 8.5
Make Division % : 10.4
Make Conference % : 4.1
Make Super Bowl %: 1.7
Win Super Bowl %: 0.7
Bill Belichick added Bill O'Brien to the ranks as the offensive coordinator for the Patriots after there was much debate over who was calling plays last season. The move to bring on the former Alabama offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach was a strategic one, with Mac Jones being one of the key members of the team to struggle last year.
While he was forced to sit out due to an ankle injury during the season, and also appeared to be replaced by Bailey Zappe when he returned, Jones' confidence seemed to be shaken. Yet, it looks like the team has full faith in the 6-foot-3, 214 pound quarterback heading into the 2023 season.
So with these released rankings, there is only room for the Patriots to go up, right?
